Cover design done for client via Reedsy

I was contracted by a client, Katy Lipomi, via Reedsy to design a sentimental cover for a book meant to teach kids how to deal with grandparents who suffer from Alzheimer's.

Cover Sketches

At first, I tried playing around with a jigsaw puzzle theme. I created an illustration and made a few attempts at turning it into a puzzle. I also tried making the book look like the front of a puzzle box. The puzzle idea came about from the author wanting the design to reflect the missing pieces of ones memory when suffering from Alzheimer's. Eventually, the cover idea changed to focus more on memory and remembering then missing memories. This lead to the cover featuring the illustration in a picture frame instead of as a puzzle.

Cover Illustration

The client wanted a watercolor-looking illustration featuring a child and grandparent binding.
