I was asked to submit a pitch package for a book I was writing by the publisher Robb Publishing Group. This here is the cover design I made as part of that pitch package for the book Dark Snow.
Character Design and Snowy Environment
Using stock images, I created a collage of woman walking. From this, I simplified the collage and broke everything down into basic shapes which resulted in the figure you see walking through the snow. I also used a stock image of a forest scene, added some snow in Photoshop, and placed the woman into the newly created snow scene. For the final image I also added in a troll like creature to the background.
I also swapped out the woman’s glass shows for fur boots.
Blood and Logo Design
As Dark Snow is a mature story, with graphic written parts, I wanted to make sure that was reflected on the cover. Hence, I created a blood splatter to use in the logo as well as the final cover design.
Final Cover Design
After assembling all the cover elements together, I went about designing the back cover and the spine thus completing the wrap around for the cover.
